Career placement

Our program is so well respected that employers call us regularly, eager to interview our students, often hiring them before they graduate.

Our ultimate goal at AAPT is to send highly skilled and knowledgeable fitness professionals out to work in the industry. We recognize that your ultimate goal as an AAPT student is to get a great job as a personal fitness trainer when you graduate. So, it’s only natural that we take career placement seriously.

Demand is growing for qualified fitness professionals, and employment is expected to continue increasing at a rate “much faster than the average for all occupations” (US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2010-2011). Through individual career guidance, employer networking, and AAPT Job Fairs events, we make a point of doing everything we can to ensure that AAPT graduates have ample opportunity for placement into fulfilling and engaging personal trainer jobs.

Individual Career Guidance

Each AAPT location has its own in-house Placement Coordinator who not only stays on top of current employment opportunities and trends, but is also available to each and every student and graduate for individual career guidance. Individual services include:

  • resume and cover letter assistance
  • interview skills coaching
  • student-opportunity match facilitation
  • student-employer network liaison
  • other forms of placement-related support

AAPT Placement Coordinators are available during school office hours and by appointment.

Employer Networking

AAPT maintains an expansive and growing network of employers who are continually looking for talented, knowledgeable and career-minded personal trainers. As an AAPT graduate with a personal trainer degree, our employer network becomes your employer network.

You will have access to key hiring personnel with a wide variety of fitness employers, and you will even have an opportunity for face-time with hiring managers at the end of each academic quarter. This is when we host our exclusive AAPT Job Fairs, which is an in-house event designed to introduce graduating students and returning alumni to the area’s top employers.

An additional career resource: your instructor

It is worth noting, that AAPT faculty members are a well-connected and experienced crew, making them excellent sources of information when it comes to sorting through career possibilities. Most have been fitness managers or business owners themselves, so they know first-hand what fitness industry employers are looking for and what it takes to be successful. Students are encouraged to contact their instructors for advice and/or references during their job search. Your instructor will be glad to help!

Please note that while AAPT does go to great lengths to help all of our graduates in securing meaningful work, we cannot guarantee or promise employment.
